Basket Chair outdoor
Read the story behind the Basket Chair…
The 29-year-old Swiss/Italian designer Gian Franco Legler designed the Basket Chair for The Basket restaurant in Italy in 1951. Legler contracted local basket weavers and locksmiths to manufacture the first 52 chairs.
Design icon
The Basket Chair quickly became a success, not only in Italy and Switzerland but also in Germany and the United States. In 1953 Gian Franco Legler received the Good Design Award from the Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) in New York for the Basket Chair. Just as important to him was the encouragement he received from Charles Eames.
Comfort
The strong, highly stackable chair with hand-woven rattan shell is exceptionally comfortable. The great advantage of the fine weaving structure on hot days is that it allows your body to breathe.
